Do you know anyone who is just crazy about a particular animal - like they dream about it all the time, talk about it all the time? I have a friend who does this with penguins, but it's got really bad recently. He's started asking for digital pics of everyday stuff from his friends, and then spends hours locked away in his room making changes to the pics by adding in little cartoon penguins.

Is he mad? or is it just a cute aspect of his personality?

Perhaps he was a penguin in an earlier life?  Has he started to act like a penguin in any way?  Does he often wear evening suits and waddle and have you noticed him eating lots of fish.   I have a friend like this as well and we often have to go and collect him from the Penguin Enclosure at London Zoo.  I think there is a medical term for this behaviour.  Someout out there must know what it is called.
pingurea
Thanks jno.  Can it be treated?
I am honestly not making this up.  I have a friend who does the same.  But he is not cute, more barmy.
and I think it's sexual, i.e. related to his fantasies.  About flightless birds.  And waddling.

My friend even has the same hairstyle as a penguin!

That would make sense Brawburd!
Once my friend was found smuggling a penguin onto a bus in Scotland!
Are penguins the new in thing with the young and hip crowd? I know a very popular twenty-something who has recently been obsessing with penguins. How did this all start? Is it making its way around the world? Should I stop smashing penguins (almost typed smashing pumpkins) with a club and start embracing them like my ever-so-slightly-younger peers? Will I be the laughing-stock of the world if I dont have a penguin? If I get a penguin, should I take it for walks? How will I keep my dogs from eating it? How will I keep me from eating it (I hear they taste just like chicken)? Penguins??? Oh no, no, no. This will never do. May I suggest something a bit more reasonable like hippopotamuses (but not the alien ones).

There must be something about penguins - I also have a friend with this obsession.

Perhaps there was a problem with a chocolate biscuit in early life.

I have Brenda The Elephant and Brenda The Penguin who lives in the hospital fridge (that's the penguin not the elephant) There's no room for Brenda The Elephant  because Hans The Inuit has been living there since he was fined for having an out-of date tax disc on his sledge last Christmas.

Is it time for ma tablets yet?

pingurectomy, FP

Aha, jno.  thanks.

TCL - You are totally and utterly bonkers!!  (This is a very serious thread!)

FP Do you not think I was being serious? Hans is saying there's a whaling fleet due here Monday afternoon to visit him! I know we have the Boating Lake here but I think the local anglers might get a wee bit upset
This is so wierd! I know a guy who is mad about penguins too! I think ezapf may be right, and it's some sort of new trend!
My firend, who funnily enuff also has a penguin haircut, prefers the crested penguins because the sticky up bits tickle his fancy.
We saw a penguin in the park, sitting on a bench puffing on a fag and swigging a bottle of beer.  He was reading a psychiatric book about penguin addiction and was having a good laugh.
Your friend is not mad, i.e. he does not suffer from a psychosis, but he could have an obsessive disorder. As long as it doesn't harm his life or other people, then it is nothing more than harmless eccentricity. If it somehow interferes with his work or family life, then prescribed drugs like Prozac can help. Why penguins, you wonder? Well, they are exotic, strange birds, let's face it. Who among us has not looked at a penguin and wanted to marry it? I know I have :-)
I am getting fed up with all these penguins roaming across the world bringing crime and corruption and chaos and disease in their wake, taking our jobs and being given luxury flats at the taxpayers' expense.  I think we should send them to the Arctic and see how they compete with the polar bears, or to the Serengeti to be hunted by lions.

hugoboss - I kinda know what you mean, but I think you should take a closer look at your question.
