the gap between Russia and Alaska
I really want to drive round the world.. from UK to probably South America. I would need to be able to get from the edge of Russia to Alaska but not sure how. Does it freeze? I've heard not frozen enough to drive over...

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.A very interesting plan, but the 55 mile gap between Russia and the US is split by the Bering Strait, which does not freeze. This stretch of sea is about 500 miles south of the limit of the permanent ice cap.
Of course, even if it did freeze, you still couldn't drive over it - unless you were on a skidoo - as it is not flat, will be full of crevesses, and will be very slippy!
