Isle of Man Traffic Fines

My girlfriend got a heavy right foot while visiting the Isle of Man and subsequently got stopped by the Police.  She has received a notification of intended prosecution but it seems to be directed towards island residents.

Can anyone tell me the correct procedure for pleading guilty and paying the admittance fee etc.

Hi pezza, your girlfriend does not need to admit liability or anything, all she has to do is send a copy of the fine notice along with a cheque made payable to Isle of Man Government to the following address: - General Registry, Isle of Man Courts of Justice, Deemsters Walk, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 3AR.  Hope this has been helpful

Hectic, thanks for your answer.  She hasnt got fined yet but has received the summons.  I have spoken to the IOM courts today and they said pretty much what you said.  The case is in court on 1st July and we will know the fine after that. 

Do you have an idea of the likely fine for 10mph over a 30mph limit outside of a built up area?

Its usually between �50-�100 depending on how the old magistrate is feeling on the day really, they do tend to give 3 penalty points as well.. Apart from her incident I hope your girlfriend had a lovely time on the Island

hectic, thanks again.  I spoke to the courts and they said that the points arent transferable to the uk licence.  They also said that the fine was liable to be near �200!! 

Why can't she drive slowly?

They say that it can go up to that amount just to prepare you but from looking thorugh the local papers every week as I do, the average amount fined is usually only between �50-�100.  She's lucky about the points though

Driving a car in the Isle of Man is broadly similar to driving in the United Kingdom, and most traffic regulations are the same.

The Isle of Man has a Reciprocal Driving Bans Agreement with the United Kingdom. From the 23rd May 2005, if you receive a driving disqualification in the Isle of Man, this will also apply in the UK and Northern Ireland. Any ban will only be lifted once the Isle of Man disqualification has ended.

Another point, driving whilst using a mobile phone is a criminal offence in the Isle of Man, and to do so can attract a fine of up to �1,000. The local papers are a testament to the fact that this law is actively enforced and people are regularly convicted.

Over here it is �60 + 3 points, she is very lucky if she doesn't get points.

They tend to take a dim view of speeding in the IOM manily because in areas where you see the national speed limit sign you can do what you like (rather than 70mph as it is here in the UK.

This means that when they tell you go to 30Mph there is a reason. Something alon the lines of why go 40 in a 30 zone when in 2 minutes you can go 140.
