When Robert Mugabe retires/dies what is  likely to happen with regards to control of power,does he have a successor or will there a mad grab for power?

He is afraid to even think of a successor.   About two years ago there was talk of who should succeed and any of the hopefuls were firmly put in their place.    He will die in power.   Afer him who knows but it cant be worse than this surely???

I fail to see why animals such as Mugabe are left in power other than the fact of his state wealth is not as commutable as saddams(oil). he has turned a britcol into a very oppressive and violent dictatorship. The zimbas were better off with Ian Smith, they may not have had it so good at times but there was not atrocities etc. to live with. I have seen mugabe from about 10 ft he is a little bloke with a big gob!

When the time comes to replace Mugabe all the wealthy nations (US, UK, CHN, RUS) will try their best to get their man on the top. Its after all a lot of mining rights, strategic African politics etc. We have done this for generations and will keep doing it for ever. After all we like to maintain our standards of living dont we. Remember we are not rich by luck. A lot of people have paid for our wealth and few have been british.

The country will fall apart - a bit more.

The movement for demoncratic change is not really credible - which is a pity but not surprising.

As for mineral wealth -  not sure. No oil - remember the beira pipeline and blockade. Diamonds No...Gold - QueQue had a goldmine whose ore content was 1 dwt/ton - that is one pennyweight per ton of ore. Apparently it could be economic to mine it. Copper - Malachite is mined open cast but to the North there are much richer (in ore!) mines in Zambia.

Asbestos - long fibre crocidolite in the north. Not much of a market now.

We have vast mineral wealth in zim.   one of the worlds largest chrome deposits,platinum, gold, iron, tin, coal, copper, emeralds.   We were the bread basket of africa but now we are a basket case.   believe me people are starving.
