I think the Salvation Army have a service which tries to reunite people in your situation. Have you tried them?

I will ask her when I see her again
I know that people don't like it, but have you tried posting on facebook?
The Salvation Army does work - a relative tried it, and they found her missing relative.

It has been on facebook for several weeks But I Suggested Answerbank to see if she gets a quicker response. It may also be more widespread on Answerbank & if enough people pass it on could achieve a result
The problem might be in knowing what her name is now - her adoptive parents may have changed it, and the surname would be different......
There's a charity in Belfast, Adopt NI, which helps people find lost relatives. Their e-mail is [email protected]. You, or your friend, could e-mail them and ask if there's a similar organisation in Scotland.
Might be worth asking the people in genealogy to do some of their magic - they're good at looking up dates and places of birth. I'm not sure if what you need will be the public domain yet - but you may want to ask just in case.

Thanks to everyone for helping out. if we can do this in time for xmas that would be fantastic

Was wonderfull and a great success.

Thanks Pusskin but finding a male person is much easier than finding a female as when they marry they change their surname. & if they marry more than once it is an absolute nightmare. I was hoping that this route might work better

As she was adopted it is not easy to locate her
Have you reached out to the hospital in case they can help?
If she was adopted, against her birth entry there will be an adoption reference (in England, don't know about Scotland), that number may be of help to an organisation like the Salvation Army etc.

I will have to find out when i see her again
