Shires tend to be counties - Not sure of their history but there is some there - Notice how they tend to be Northern UK (Lancashire, Yorkshire, Lannarkshire, etc). Districts are allocated areas, either going by Council powers (eg. Bolton District) or simply a name given to a general area of land (eg Lake District). Boundaries tend to be the borders showing where a region starts or ends. As for parishes... No idea - I only ever associate the word with Churches... But even then I don't know what it means
