Do i buy a gift?

I've just been invited to the engagement party of my old best friend. We finished school 4years ago and lost touch as we went to different colleges. Having never been to an engagement party i need to know if i should buy a present and if so what kind of thing? Thankyou!

Yes I would snappy.  Not anything big.  Nice towels or candles - does your friend have a house/apartment already?

I would say yes too ... you can never go wrong with a tasteful photo frame as they are bound to be having engagement and wedding pics

Yes , similar to wedding but usually smaller and cheaper.

I'd probably just go for a bottle of champagne as you won't know her tastes or what she already has etc.
