As in most incidents of Bibical history, the origins of the Three Wise Men are lost in time. One theory is that the men were astrologers, probably from Persia or Arabia, who had read of the coming of a Chosen One in their own texts, and travelled to find the truth. Having found Jesus, and concluding that His birth was the culmination of their handed-down prophesies, the three worshipped Him. The notion that the three were Kings, as in the Christmas carol, probably evolved with the embelishment of time - since Christ was born to be King, it must have seemed appropriate that earthly monarchs, rulers in their own countries, would worhsip the new-born King who's destiny was advised to them in advance of His arrival.
