dovedale is quite famous in the peak district, along with jacobs ladder. I was wondering if the Dales had anything like these iconic walks / places?
you're welcome, i'm not suggesting you try them all in one day ...
Spath the Yorkshire Dales is full of nice walks, fabulous scenery, and pubs for all tastes. You've got the choice of the pretty green dales, say Coverdale and Nidderdale, or further north where it gets more barren and in some cases, above the tree line, but still, to me, beautiful. Depends what you like.

^And watch for the Dippers in the river and listen for the Green Woodpeckers.
Not too far from Zac's suggestion is How Stean Gorge which is amazing, definitely worth a look.

Can you stay by the rivers side?
Question Author
As in stay close whilst walking.. Not stay as in stop for the night :)
You can book a room in the Red Lion at the side of the river. Or you can camp at Mason's campsite in Appletreewick which backs onto the river.
Ah, I see. Yes there's a large grass car park at the far side of the river from the village where people go and have picnics / BBQs. There's usually a Doubtfire's ice cream van as well. Mmmm.
