If one were to lose their sense of smell, what would most food taste like to them? How big is the impact of smell towards tasting?

I remember we had to do an experiment at school where we had to taste food whilst holding our nose to see how different the taste was.

My neighbour lost his sense of smell some years back, I ased him this, and he reckons his tastebuds aren't impaired at all.

They always tell you, if you don't like some food, to hold your nose and swallow it. Also, when you have a cold and your nose is blocked food tastes a lot blander so this seems sensible to me.
