How many islands make up The Channel Islands. In a pub quiz I said five, the answer was 4, how!

Because there are 4... Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark as far as I am aware!

Oh yeah... Herm you mean there also appears to be Jethou, Brechou, Burhou and Lihou islands so maybe is should be nine?
Oh and Ortac, though that might be a rock rather than an island
I hope there wasn't a huge prize riding on that question, because whoever set the quiz is just plain wrong. All the islands Obo mentions are correct, and there are quite a few even less well-known ones as well (ever heard of Blanche Ile, Maitresse or Marmaoutier? Me neither... but I've just looked them up and they're there!)
You sure the question wasn't 'How many INHABITED Channel Islands are there?'
