My nine year old daughter reads the daily papers with me every day and is very glad Gary Glitter isn't our next door neighbour.
As most criminals are eventually released into the community, it got me thinking about my worst fears on this issue.
Assuming you had to have an ex-con next door, what would be your worst fear: murderer, paedophile, drug dealer, or ANother?

Hi Drusilla, I just wanna get out of the ID Q&A and immerse myself in another topic. Been there lately? it looked like a warzone. GWB would be so proud.

I'd worry about a psychopathic serial rapist with OCD who has a fetish for slimy animals and red corpuscles.

But that's just me.
Other - messy dirty neighbours who chuck rubbish out on the street, or put their rubbish out before bin day and the cats, foxes rip open all the bags and the street is covered with rubbish. Noisy neighbours that play loud music late at night and DIY till late. Neighbours that grow huge conifers that block others sunlight. The list is endless of bad neighbours. Obviously drug dealing neighbours will attract the wrong company to the road. Paeophilles will be after your children. Murderers, it depends on who they killed.

I had a paedophile living next door (he'd recently been released from prison after serving a sentence for raping a 5 year old). He was okay in that he kept himself to himself and I certainly never saw him going near any children. I don't know whether he'd been 'cured' or just didn't want to get into trouble again. No one in the road was happy and we complained to the council and kept a constant eye on the children in the street. But we are a sensible lot and couldn't see the point in screaming and shouting in the street. The problem was that people from other streets heard he was there and decided to make their feelings known. A number of people in the street had stuff written on their houses/garden walls presumably by people who didn't know what house the guy actually lived in. We also had a lot of unpleasant people hanging around. I couldn't really see the point of their behaviour, It didn't get the guy out and it just scared the innocent neighbours (including the poor children!).

My aunt has a drug dealer next door and it's awful. She has been threatened by him and his cronies and he is totally anti-social. I'm not sure how bothered I'd be if I had a murderer next door. If it was a multiple murderer I'd be worried, but there are people who murder once in their life for a reason and never do it again.

P.S. The paedophile was moved by the council after 6 months.
