Go to Australia or not?
I've got the opportunity to go travelling round Australia and New Zealand with my fella, which i've always wanted to do. The only problem is i've got a really good job and if i leave it'll put me behind on my career progression. I'd also have to sell my car, etc. (for travel money) and when i come back i'd have absolutely no money. Also, he wants to go for a year and find a job after travelling, but i think 3 months would be enough to see what it's like before i decide whether i want to stay/work there and then i wouldn't have to quit my job here, but if i come back after 3 months he said he'll probably stay there longer. What should i do?

You could ask your employers for a sabbatical, they'll keep you're job for you and get a temp in to cover the work while you're gone.
Sell your car for the spending money, and when you come back to your job (subject to emlpoyers agreement), you'll only have 1 month / 1 week of no money
You could compromise with your BF and agree that the pair of you go for 6 months, and if you both liked it so much that you want to live/work out there then that's great - take it from there, but if he wants to stay and you don't, I'm afraid you'll have to consider if you're really right for each other in that you want different things as drastic as that.
No idea how old you are but, if you decide not to go you will always wonder..................
I have a sneaky feeling that setting a time limit is not a good idea. You will be tending to tick of days, weeks etc. and then decide not do something because you are close to a cut off date.
The most important thing is your frame of mind. You should always travel with an open mind and be prepared to try local ways and situations. That goes for foods also.
I have worked overseas for more years than I care to think about and, whatever your views about a particular place, you are in the happy position of being able to move on. The locals do not have that option.
Because I have travelled a great deal I may not have ended up with a mammoth pension scheme from aeons of boring, loyal service but I would not change a minute!!!!
Travel is a great educator, it eliminates preconceived ideas, promotes tolerance and understanding that other people have valid points of view and beliefs as well.
Go for it!!
A year is not that long in the big scheme of things. If you do go, don't worry about having to stick it out for a year - just go for as long as you are enjoying it. For all you know, your boyfriend could be dying to go home within a couple of weeks and you could be wanting to emigrate. No one can really predict this sort of thing. You are lucky that you have someone to go with - lots of people don't and this prevents them from travelling. If you go, the worst case scenario is that you want to come home - so you come home and put it down to experience. If you stay here, the worst case scenario is that you regret not going and that could stay with you for a long time, if not forever. Good luck with your choice - listen to your heart on this one - and don't let anyone push you into making a decision! It has to be your choice. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' decision.
