How big is the largest farm in Australia.

In the 1890's farms were surveyed into one or two square mile blocks and clearance began to enable cereal crops to be grown and to improve pastures for grazing.

Ever since that period, consolidation of farms has occurred. Today in the 2000's the average size farm would be approx. 8,000 to 10,000 acres or 12 - 15 square miles.

In the Australian Bush, quite a few cattle stations measure 10,000 square kilometres (6,200 square miles) or more. Properties this size usually run between 20,000 and 60,000 head of cattle each.

The world's largest landholder, Stanbroke Pastoral Company, owns 50,000 square miles in Queensland, Australia and 500,000 cattle. But has claim to about 400 square miles of bush clearance to expand.

England covers about 50,352 square miles.
