Is anyone else sick of this phrase? The government has repeated it like a mantra for the past few years as well as "weapons of mass destruction" which was another much repeated term.

How do you know whether you have won a war against terror? You don't, it is an open-ended phrase...

Much the same as The First World War is still called The Great War by may.
I don't think you can defeat an abstract noun....
I prefer the acronym for The War Against Terror. Probably a better description of its main advocates......
I strongly believe, but cannot prove, that there IS a war going on against terrorism - an intelligence led war. I think that many planned attacks have been thwarted, which if they had succeeded, WOULD have resulted in terror being created in the UK. Or have I been taken in ?
Read "1984" by George Orwell. We get fed so much misinformation that no-one knows who the good guys are any more. Then again, aren't we lucky to have so much firepower to keep the terrorists under control?
They are under control aren't they?
Odd how the war against terror arose just at the time when the US lost its main enemy. With the end of the cold war, how else sould they justify an annual 'defence' expenditure that is equal to $10,000 for every hour since Jesus Christ was born?
Yes, Grunty, I know it's hard not to be cynical about the superpowers, but 9/11 did happen. didn't it?
as that guy on the daily show said ... it's catchy, it's got a good beat, and you can detain people to it ....

Yes it did happen and the misguided people who did it thought it was the only way to get back at the US for all their transgressions. Of course they were very wrong, but all the same, since WW2, the US has meddled in China, France, Marshall Islands, India, Greece, Philippines, Korea, Albania, Eastern Europe, Germany, Iran, Guatemala, Costa Rica mid, Indonesia, Haiti, Western Europe, British Guiana/Guyana, Iraq, Soviet Union, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Ecuador, The Congo/Zaire, France/Algeria, Brazil, Peru, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Indonesia, Ghana, Uruguay, Chile, Greece, South Africa, Bolivia, Australia, Iraq, Portugal, East Timor, Angola, Jamaica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Philippines, Seychelles, South Yemen, South Korea, Chad, Grenada, Suriname, Libya, Fiji, Panama, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Haiti, Bulgaria, Albania, Somalia, Iraq, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Yugoslavia,

I'm yet to see how wasting taxpayers money on invading Iraq to steal their oil constitutes a war on anything, let alone terror.
No no no... it's not about oil..... is it....
