Windows Ten Word Problem - Take 2

I was a little premature in advising Chris that his advised fix has worked.

However, a System Restart has solved the problem.

The only problem I have now is, Chris's fix means that Microsoft have installed their latest Office package on my PC, and not surprisingly, the want me to pay for it.

I have four more days to do so, I suspect that non-payment will disable my Office facility entirely.

Is there anything I can do to take their version off, and put my version back on again?

Yes, but I don't advise it. Install a non windows OS, doesn't matter, any one will do then install a knock off old windows over the top. ....or be assimilated it won't hurt and you save a fortune.

Thanks Barry, but the restore option you advise is not available, it only allows for re-sets for ten days, and does not appear to understand that my last fix was only yesterday.

for £59 a year you can have the latest office everything and 1TB of one drive space you can access from anywhere. No brainer.

TTT - Thanks, but I don't want the latest version, I want my 2016 version, because that has a version of PP that is compatible with all my presentations, a leter one may not sync with it, so I don't want to change.

there is a conversion utility just open an old one and it will ask you.

TTT - // there is a conversion utility just open an old one and it will ask you. //

Cam you explain to the site's resident Luddite how that works please?

Thanks.

CyberCPU Tech on YouTube has researched this topic and found some options.

if you open any office doc with a new version of the software it will know. They have a header so it will know that the features are not compatible but all MS software is upwardly compatible so when you open it, it will say it detects an old format and would you like to convert? Normally it is indestinguishable so let it do it and if it's wrong don't save it. I am 99% certain it will be fine so save it and you are sorted.

Question Author

Psalm - Thanks for your link, but it ot gives access to Word and Excel - I need PP as well. And not the current version.

Question Author

TTT - Yes. I've seen that, but I don't want to 'convert' because I don't want the latest Office version which they will then ask me to pay for.

If you simply decline to accept the update to Microsoft Office, the old version should continue working normally.

Like me, you have probably tried but not stuck with MS Office alternatives. Here is one you may not have tried. I just installed it, and so far, it looks like a winner. It seamlessly handles your requirements except for audio and video features. https://www.freeoffice.com/en/features/freeoffice

16:31 nothing will change that you can see.

I am pinning my hopes on Chris's response at 17.33. Microsoft will give up and leave me alone.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

Let us know how you get on, andy.
