In general no....

Some in London do, those on special duty out side government buildings at airports etc but your general PC's don't

Some do.
Around sensitive areas like airports they have done for a while.
I think Chief Constables can upgrade overall situations in their patch if there is an increase in gun crime for example.
Here in manchester that pretty much means all the time. Bobbies obviously dont carry guns but you see Armed Response Units on the streets all the time.

Well the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) certainly do, as did the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) before them.

I'm not sure about other forces in the UK.
