how do I get information from the 1901 census? no matter what info I give them, all I get is 'no result found'

The 1901 census is easy to use, if u are searching on line you need to have the name and location of the person you are looking for as a basis for confirming it is the correct entry. If it is a common surname, without a location you would be spending ages looking. How old would they be in 1901? The census took place in early April and so if they were only born after then, they would not be included, but their parents would be. The more information you have about siblings, the easier it will be to identify the correct family group.

Its also possible the people you are looking for didn't fill in the cencus or they have been elsewhere when they filled it in. You have to remember you fill in a cencus where you were located at the time.

Check for possible spelling inaccuracies too. I was looking for "Turners" in the 1891 census who were showing in the 1881 and the 1901 and found it had been wrongly transcribed as "Furner" in the 1891, so think of possible mistakes if you can't locate them.

I was wondering exactly the same thing the other day! I was trying to find my house which was built in 1750 just to see who lived here and whatever way I entered my address it came up 'no result found' Gave up in the end! I have seen really old photos so I know the house was inhabited at that time.

Could be the address has changed since 1901 - numbers introduced or changed, name of house changed - even the road could have changed name.

Frustrating - but part of the fascination
