World's largest churches?

The cathedral in Turin was described as the world's third largest church on TV today. Assuming that St. Peter's in Rome is the largest, which is 2nd?

I was 99% certain that I knew the answer to your question without the need for a web search but I was still pleased to see that this site agrees with me:

It's St Paul's Cathedral, London.

The site also confirms your theory that St Peter's in the Vatican is the largest. It doesn't however agree with the producers of the TV programme. Turin doesn't appear in the list!

Thanks Chris, I thought the second largest was a cathedral in New York!! I suppose it depends on the definition of size. Seems like your list is total length. But could also measure surface area(m squared), or interior space(metre cubed)

According to Guinness (the book, not the black stuff's after-effects), it is actually the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace - in the Ivory Coast.

St Peter's is bigger than St Paul's. Seville usually comes in after that; I don't know how it compares sizewise with Turin or with St John the Divine in New York. As Stu says, there are different ways of counting.
