My B/F & a couple of his buddies are wanting to do an incredibly long walk, a place is in mind. So I have suggested they do it in aid of a charity. But neither of them have a charity in mind, I have tried to delve into past family illness and death to choose a charity personal to either of them but nothing stands out. Any suggestions, I know there are millions of different charities around for a millions of different things but I can't seem to find a definitive list online, so I am asking for charities that you know of or are a part of - Preferably to do with people rather then animals please.

why not ask everyone to chose an individual charity and divide the cash between them, but all work on behalf of each other to promote each others charities

you can contact each one and ask for flyers, tshirts badges etc to hand out and wear on the way

if not, you could try pcos. it causes infertility and obesity in many women and is often undiagnosed - or worse ignored.

their website is called verity

Everyone will have their favourite charity but here's the one which I'm a Governor of:
http://www.rnli.org.uk/
(Despite the advertising claims of the AA, the UK's 4th emergency service is undoubtedly our national lifeboat service but, unlike the other emergency services, the RNLI receive no government support).

The NSPCC hands down every time. Children are the future and need all the protection they can get as they cant protect themselves. But in saying that, any charity is always a worthwhile cause.
I donate monthly to NSPCC, RSPCA and Cancer Research, but I would agree with Buenchico.

as much as i think every charity is a needy one. personally i would choose a charity closer to home. choose a local one that will mean something to the community you live in.

when i did a skydive i did it for a family charity. a 13 yr old cousin of mine died at 13 by solvent abuse so it was to raise awareness in schools... we were oblivious to the fact that so many children were using solvents.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children.

The reason I mention that particular hospital, is due to the wonderful dedication of the Doc's & Nurses & the neverending caring for my dearest friends 3 children, who sadly died, aged 9 yrs, 15 yrs & 16 yrs.

maybe testicular cancer? something that could affect any of them. good chace to raise awareness!

Macmillan Cancer Relief, (Paliative care)

They assist in the care of people with terminal cancer.

I'm a member of Garforth and District Lions club. We raise money and spend it on good causes around our area. Membership dues are paid by all members so 100% of any donation given to the club goes to the causes we support which are discussed by our welfare committee and voted upon by the club, for example a 10 yo with epilepsy, severe learning difficulties and cerebral palsy needed a special wheelchair at a cost of 2500, we've just supplied him with that chair through money we have raised. We also do food parcels for the needy, organise kids discos and will often be seen seen rattling our tins to collect for the next needy case to come up. If you want to find a lions club near you go to www.lions.org.uk or phone head office in the uk on 0121 441 4544 and ask for the details of your nearest club. Nice idea you, enjoy the walk.
