Cadishead

Hi there, my boyfriend and I have seen a really nice house to buy in Cadishead but know nothing about the area. We're relocating from Leeds and would be really appreciative of any information on the area. I've been on upmystreet.com but I'd love to hear thoughts from people who know more about what it's like to live there. Thanks!

Aaaaaah - no stop right now!
I lived in Eccles for years and Cadishead is horrible.
If you very low expectations then it will be alright i suppose. Its handy for the trafford centre if you like that sort of thing but thats about as far as it goes. The pubs are really rough round there , the kids are evil, there is no culture and Morrisons is considered the height of sophistication. The buses and are alright but the tram is slow and expensive and good 10 minute walk away.
I'm sure your house looks like a bargain but there is a very good reason why it is probably quite cheap.
My family still live in Eccles so i know it very well - if i was you i would look elsewhere. Sorry to rain on your parade but its better you know isnt it?

Gary Baldy- thank you so much. That's all I need to know :) I did wonder why the house was so cheap and when looking around the area there didn't seem to be much around but I was told lots of bars and restaurants would be coming to the area as there is so much buliding work going on. You've helped more than you know, thanks a lot!

I have to differ with gary baldy. The Coach & Horses in Cadishead is an excellent pub. I was born and brought up in Irlam (the next village) and would not think twice about moving back to either Irlam or Cadishead.(Now in Essex) The area has suffered in the last 30 years with the closing of the steelworks resulting in high unemployment. It's now getting back on it's feet with a great deal of firms building on the old steelworks site. Also now benefits from the A57 by-pass. House prices are low at the moment but will rise a great deal in the next 5 years. One of the largest Tescos in the UK is situated in Irlam and a Makro between Eccles and Irlam. The Cheshire countryside is minutes away over Warburton Bridge.

There is something in what Artemis says but if your idea of fun is a big tesco and a makro than i suppose cadishead is a good idea.
There a lots of new houses going up because land is so cheap out there but the associated services that go with them is slow in coming and the by pass has only resulted in the town being clogged with traffic (combined with the lack of decent public transport).
Its too far from manchester to be handy and not in the country enough to be nice. Maybe the Irlam artemis knew 30 years ago was alright but trust me treacle - look elsewhere.

Cadishead is about 6 or 7 miles from Eccles, on the other side of the M60 Ring Road. It's certainly not a 10 minute walk from a tram stop.

I also know Eccles very well and although it's certainly not the most glam place in the world there are some really nice properties in the area and its excellent for getting into the central of Manchester as well as getting onto the M60 & M62. Not all the pubs are 'really rough' and not all the kids are 'evil'. However perceptions such as Gary Baldy's do keep prices well below what you would pay in more fashionable areas of Manchester/Salford. Prices are very attractive to young professional first time buyers who have been priced out of trendier areas - this will lead to areas such as Eccles improving and buying now is likely to be a pretty good investment. (Not that I can predict the housing market!)

As for Cadishead, I know that there are some very nice looking new build properties in the Cadishead/Irlam area. The busy A57 used to send lots of traffic through the centre of the town but a recently opened bypass will have improved things a lot (I don't know for sure 'cos I use the bypass!) I would think that the lack of noisy heavy traffic will mean that house prices will be on the up soon. I wouldn't discount the house if it looks really good - go and have a look.

You are right hartley - i was way off - the tram is much more than a 10 minute walk -even more reason not to live there!
You are right aswell - treacle - go and have a look, it may suit you and you may be very happy there -but dont say i didnt warn you!!!!!!
I can assure you its not my perceptions that are keeping the house prices down - its cos its horrible - thats why!

Hi there, I'm not sure any of you are still using this website or even remember replying to my thread but just incase you do and are still around I thought I'd let you know that we bought the house and are really happy here :)

I read and understood what all of you had to say but with the house being so close to irlam train station and other amenities we went for it and it has really worked out. The people round here are lovely and there's really easy access to the M60 and cheshire countryside so it suits us both really well.
