Canadian executioner? Still employed by our gov't?

I know that canada still keeps an offical exicutioner on payroll even though the penalty of death has been abolished, the position has not. If aqnyone can corroborate this please do and if so can you give me the salary of this wasted gov't position.

John Ellis (last official Canadian Hangman) was on payroll into the 1980s, and lived in the Bahamas.

What makes you think the position is salaried anyway? Most hangmen were paid fees on a payment by results basis.
