A prenuptial agreement lays down in writing, and therefore in lawbecause it is signed and witnessed, exactly how a married couple's possessions, property and finances will be divided if the couple should divorce.

They are not common, because most people do not have a large enough amount of money or property that they wouldn't want their ex to get their hands on it - so it is usually restricted to the very rich - film stars, musicians,and so on.
