Where are the best places to watch areoplanes up close? sites around Heathrow or Gatwick much appreciated!...Thanks!

Lakenheath plane viewing car park - the american air force jets take off and the ground shakes. They circle and then come down, and take off again just before touching the runway. You can't hear yourself think.

Not 100% overhead, but right next to the runway, great stuff.

Mildenhall dog track - the big transporter planes come in overhead (think they're not using it at the moment though).

RAF Valley on Anglesey has more take offs and landings than any airforce base in the UK, it is the main training depot for RAF pilots.

I live 7 miles from there under the flight path and see Hawks, Eurofighter, Hercules, Tornado, tucaro, F15, etc.

Good viewing position with car park at the end of the runway!

if your still looking for places to watch aircraft at gatwick try parking in the flight tavern car park and walk out the car park and turn left and follow the road round the corner and that will take you to the western end of the runway, aircraft will take off/ land right over you. i work at heathrow and gatwick. if i can help you anymore please ask.
