Closely followed by M&S in 1964 (still a student) when I got put on the Men's underwear counter! You had to appear busy at all times, unfolding and refolding all the various vests and pants. Also, it was quite daunting being asked by blokes what size underwear they should buy.
I had a trial period with Mcdonalds in the mid 80s, with a view to joining their graduate recruitment programme. I had to spend a few hours with the person who cleaned the tables. She had one cloth, and used it to wipe out the urinals in the men's toilets. Then she went back and used it on the tables. I worked at Fine Fare when I was at school and it was awful. This is in the 1960's.I eventually got the sack as we used to mess around all the time and I got caught riding down from the stockroom on the conveyor belt whilst eating a bag of broken biscuits.I then got a job in a hairdressers and it was the pits.Sweeping up peoples hair and cleaning out yukky washbasins. and..having to shampoo peoples dirty hair. People (well older people ) didn't use to wash their hair so often in those days.I used to get the grand sum of thirteen shillings and sixpence for working all day Saturday.!
