What has happened to 11 Downing Street? It keeps appearing on the news as a white stucco building with the classic black door. Has it always been like this?

Sign of the times - Downing Street now has security gates at the end of the road!

I thought that was a sign of the Irish...

11 Downing Street is where the Blairs now live as no 10 was deemed too small for them.Maybe this has something to do with it.

He's a stickler for tradition...

I've finally found a source to confirm that he wasn't in number 10; the BBC isn't helpful with the way it keeps saying he lives there.

Anyway, "Prime Minister Tony Blair lives in the larger flat above Numbers 11 and 12, which has more room for his family." http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page7410.asp

to confirm that he isn't, I should say.

Where is the answer to my question? I know where the Prime Minister lives. I'm wondering why Number 11 has lately appeared as a white building. Perhaps it's the back of it.
