Does anyone know about a monument in the graveyard in Llanderfel (near Bala) for a well known poet (Sorry, I don't know his name)? Is there anywhere I can find out on the Internet? Thanks.

john cowper powys perhaps. he died around that area
The monument in the churchyard at Dt Derfel's church in Llandderfel is to David Roberts, whose bardic name was Dewi Havhesp. Also mentioned on the monument are his wife, Miriam nee Griffith and other family members, I tink including Thomas Roberts, one of his children, who was also a poet. Dewi was born in 1832 and died in the workhouse at Bala in 1884 though he spent most of his life in Llan. Miriam was born in 1827 and died in 1886. Let me know if you want any more information.

Thank you so much, Dewi. This is my Husband's Great Great Grandfather, so I'd be really interested in any other info you can give me.
Cathy, he is also my g-g-grandfather! Please would you go to Genes Reunited and contact me via there as I do not want to put my email address on here - unless you are willing to put yours on here. I think we should get in touch! Search on the name David Roberts, born c 1832 d 1884 and email me! If that is not possible please send me your email address on here, or a telephone number. I have lots of info!

The poet you mentioned was my great-great grandfather and in the same churchyard you will find a gravestone to his son, ap Havhesp, who we all knew as Taid Llan.

What is your interest in the monument and how did you know of it's existence?

Dewi,
I've tried to contact you through Genes Reunited, so if you haven't heard from me can you let me know as I've probably totaly confused someone!

Amgen,
Thanks for that info. I was talking to my father-in-law to find out some family history for when my little boy is bigger. He told me just as we were going to leave that his great grandfather had a large monument at Llanderfel. I didn't have a chance to ask him any more so I thought I would see what I could find out once we got home.
Hi Cathy

Let me know names of your family connection , i.e. which line your husband belongs to, and I could provide you also with a lot of info. I still have family in Bala nearby and at one time did research on Dewi into a possible book, and have some research on the family in general.

If you prefer, email me on [email protected]. - for security rather than reveal names and numbers here.
