Here in the U.S., Harry would be a shortened or nickname for Harrold, whereas, Henry would be shortened to Hank. Harry has, however, been a given name with no connection to Harrold...

Thankyou Clanad. In the UK we do not shorten the name Henry to Hank. Im think that Harry can be a nickname for Henry but I want to be sure as I am helping to write a quiz and need to know.
Its Henry redcrx, Prince Harry's name is really Henry for example.

Thank you very much Fina. Can now get on with my quiz :)
Both but I thought Harold only had one r sis :-)
As advised, Harry is usually a UK abreviation for Harold, or Henry, but lately, thanks to Prince Harry, it has become popular as a name of its own, rather than a shortened version of the other two names.

And Hal is a shortened version of Harry or Henry as in King HenryVIII also known as Bluff King Hal.

Harriet is the shortened version of Henrietta but is now a name in it's own right as is Harry.
