Arabellas? Up the stairs around the corner from Lewisis as i recall, it had a picture of a blonde woman (well a garphic image it would be called now) and she had long wavy hair, yjhink that's right, I'll ask Bez.

Hi coronaman, I think one of the longest and still going is the Grafton used to be known as the Grafton Rooms.

Others that spring to mind are, The She, Annabells, The Iron Door, if I think of anymore I'll post them on here for you.

we used to go to one in Ainsdale in the mid 70s, that was popular, it had a huge tree growing in the middle of it, Shirley's I think it was, and then there was The RAFA club which actually was very busy.
The club with the tree in Ainsdale became Toad Hall. Back in Liverpool 70s clubs The Beachcomber (The Beachy)in Seel Street, Ugly's in Duke Street, Russell's in Wolstenhome Square was originally a caberet club, Tuxedo Junction next door, Flintlocks in Wood Street, Eric's was the big Punk club, Chequers also in Seel Street or was it Duke Street? Then there was the infamous Cabin at the top of Bold Street, full of police & nurses, you didn't stand still cos you stuck to the floor! Eeeugh! In St. John's Precinct was the Top Rank, then it was Baileys, then Romeo & Juliet's then.. I've lost track! Off London Road was the Shakespeare Club (The Shakey) another caberet club and around the corner was Gulliver's the first night club I went to in Liverpool at 16. Got K.B'd from the Grafton 'cos my mate got her DOB wrong despite us practicing it all week. We went to a different club every night of the week, those were the days! Outside the city were a couple of clubs, the Wookey Hollow (Hole is more like it), The Cokie or Coconut Grove in Tuebrook and Wispa's in Litherland. I'm sure I'll remember more if I think about it but there's a few to be going on with. Aah, the memories are flooding back...
claguely......what part of the pool you from....gawd I'd forgotten some of those clubs......especially the Coconut Grove.... :)
There was a club in the 60's, I think it was the Cavern that had a band that became quite popular although for the life in me I can't think of their name.
The Peppermint Lounge in the late 60s - first time I ever saw girls dancing in a cage, the equivalent of todays Pole Dancers!!! Happy Days!!!
The Casablanca on Hope Street was seriously grim in the early 80s. Great atmosphere, good real ale downstairs. Free entry for students during the week; 50p, I think, at weekends. But if you were still there at kicking-out time when they switched the lights on - aaargh! The crimson walls dripping with condensation, broken glass and vomit on the floor. Not nice, really not nice. But we still kept coming back for more.

Whenever I hear `Tell it to my heart` by Taylor Dane I always think of Quandrant Park in Derby Road.

The Coconut Grove in Tuebrook had sticky floors and no locks on the ladies loo`s, plus they were usually flooded ! There were palms trees and a boat to sit in. Sometimes there would be a man with a real live snake at the top of the stairs as you went in ! Those where the days !

Not sure if the Broadway Club in Norris Green is still there, everyone would go on a Sunday night as it had a late bar.

tuppence2 - lived in L11 then, a taxi home only cost about 1.20 but have also done the long walk home via Breck Rd with shoes in hand when the taxi queue was too long! Couldn't do it now!

Coronaman - also remembered another caberet club was Pickwicks and up Hope Street there was a club called Chauffers, always remember it was empty in there!

Hello there coronaman what a great idea.
I first went to the Wispa in litherland by allisons when I was 15 in 1977 It was great You used to be able to get sausage/chicken and chips in a basket the music was good as well.
I had a few dates from there as well
I went to allisons a few times as well but found that boring and more for the oldies then I used to go to secrets but it was not as good and a different athemosphere than the Wispa.
There was the flames in bootle
There was also a disco on a monday night at the blundellsands hotel which was not bad
I suppose my very favorite club was the She in victoria st
I thought I had entered Studio 54 it was bliss just what a nightclub should be. Nice restaurant upstairs coloured lights on the floor.
Great music I think it had 3 floors.
I met my husband there in 1983 and where still married.
It used to feel really special there I loved it. Felt like a real disco.
I know a few people who have met and married there.
I never knew disco had died for me it never will
The clubs back then where a lot better than anything I have been to today. eg r&Bs
Chester
Those where the days
I still listen to disco on heart fm on a friday night and have a dance around the living room ha ha
I used to really feel like I had been out when I went to them Clubs.
Oh I remembered some more Rotters in St Johns Precint I sat on the floor there and did some funny dance with my hands in the air ha 1980 Tiffinys somewhere in Liverpool it was, Mr Pickwicks and the russel club Greater atmosphere in the 70s/80s maybe Don't live in Liverpool now but went out a lot there in late 90s as well though clubs where nothing like they where chillies yak
What about the Victoriana in Victoria Street, or the Mardi Gras on Mount Pleasant. The Drift inn, The Babalou, and the Beachcomber, fantastic times. Would like to see any old photos from around that era if anyone could oblige, cheers
Re, Romeo and Juliets nightclub in St Johns Precinct . In 1979 they held the Liverpool heats of the World Disco Dancing Championships of which I entered about 3 or 4 times. We`d all turn up in the attire of the day me in my white trousers and black shirt, all the girls in their 70`s disco gear . We`d get called on one by one a do a little solo routine ( I used to slide in on my knee`s !! ) and then go off to the main floor , all this if I remember rightly in front of 4 judges ! At the time I was 19 with a 28 inch waist now I`m a grandad with 38 inch waist and high blood pressure !!! ahh but those were the days ( I still try and have a go at the odd wedding but somehow it`s not the same and then my wife walks away in embarrasment!
I remember Kicks and Scotts at the Adelphi in Liverpool City Centre. Kicks was down the stairs then at midnight they'd open the double doors and let you into Scotts the Nightclub. They used to serve Jello shots, little alcoholic jellies in a glass. Also used to go the Cocky, get there early and it was a pound and Brummie stood on the door, it was fab. Any trouble the bouncers would chuck you out. Those were the days.
Pez Espada or the Pez as it was known off dale street.
Hollywood in Duke Street (owned by liverpool hairdresser Herbert) I wonder if my lifetime membership is still valid ?
Samantha's also off Dale Street.
Tiffany's under India Buildings
Romfords Coach House in Romford place off Chapel Street
The State on the corner of Dale Street/Castle Street
Just remembered a few more but these are actually outside of Liverpool.
Opposite Toad Hall in Ainsdale was the Sands.
In Formby was/still is I think a club - it has or had an Elephants head on the wall.
Then there was the Moulin Rouge and in Southport itself the Dixieland Showbar (Chicken in a basket)
