How many Scots are there, including those living in England etc.? Any real estimates please? Why I pick Scots? Well you notice 'em. If your English, You don't notice Welsh, sorry but you don't - much. Just like you don't notice Canadians but you notice Yanks.
I would think this will be near to impossible to answer xyzzy...it depends on how you define a Scot....Born in the country or if both parents are Scottish....what about 2nd or 3rd generation people living in places like Canada or New Zealand? and rather than too many I'd say not enough.....not until we outnumber the engmen anyway!
Sorry to disagree xyzzy but I do notice the Welsh accent. As an Englishman who has lived in Scotland for the last 32 years I now find that I notice English accents more than Scottish ones. I must admit though that I can't distinguish a Canadian accent from some other American accents. As for eliminating some Scots - well, only sft :-)
Anyone else finding the "unrated" answers appearing in the wrong chronological order?
Gef - thank goodness! I thought it was only me! A lot of the threads in all the categories have gone doolally! What's going on AB?? (Perhaps a Q for 'How it Works') xyzzy, just to get back on to the Q in question, my great granddad was Scottish but I'm English - would you count me as a Scot living in England? :-)
Glad that you confirmed the strange order flirty. As for you being Scottish, well, my first thoughts were no - but - doolally - I'd never heard that until I came to Scotland - did you hear it from your Grandfather?
Gef - not sure where I heard doolally! Certainly not from my great granddad who died long before I came along! I guess I've just always known the word! Can I be an honorary Scot then? :-)
