We all know most Brazilian footballers use nicknames, but kaka means exactly the same in Brazil, my friend from Sao Paolo tells me, as it does everywhere else in the world. So why has he got such a juvenile name, as even if he means something else most people will get the usual meaning.

David don't stress over it, it's a foreign thing.

I'm not stressed, I think making John Motson and Mark Lawrenson have to say Kaka is hilarious, maybe that's why he did it!

The people on telly are not saying it right!

Its all to do with the strongest syllable.

caca - poo (c, in this case has the same sound as K in Portuguese as in English)

kaK - Short for Carlos / Ricardo

Kak's true name is Ricardo Izecson Santos Leite.

So when you next hear people saying it wrong on tv just think to yourself - they are just to ignorant to learn how to say a two syllable name in a foreign language.

sorry, it should've read - the people in the tely are saying it wrong!!!

:)

I heard on German television last night that he got the nickname because that is how his little brother pronounced Ricardo, his real name.
I have to smile to myself everytime I hear his name as my eldest son had a yellow rubber duck he would NOT be parted with when he was tiny, he named it after the sound a duck makes, or his earliest interpretation of it - KAKA!
Sounds like the fella calling the Big bird thing in 'Welcome to the jungle',kaka, kaka!!
No,,,,,,it was 'Evolution',doh!!!!!!!!!
LOL @ electric!! thats what i will think of everytime i hear his name!!

There was a French cyclist whose nickname was Pou-pou

and while we are here, dont forget the French soft drink called Pfffffft ! which was to imitate the sound of the top coming off, which everyone pronounced sh+t
