don valley stadium..

me and a friend live near harrogate and might be going to see the chilli peppers soon, but we dont know where abouts the don valley stadium is or if its near a train station? as we would probably have to get the train to leeds or something - if anyone can help and has any ideas please do it will be greatly appreciated!

Don Valley Stadium is located on Attercliffe Road, in Sheffield. This is the main road between Sheffield and Rotherham, so there are buses and trams every few minutes.

From Sheffield rail station you have a choice of routes:

Route 1: Follow the signs to the Transport Interchange, which is a few minutes walk away. From there, take any bus which goes along Attercliffe Road. (These include 69, 130 and 287).

Route 2: (This is the way I'd do it). At Sheffield Rail station, when you're on the bridge which links the platforms, don't head towards the main exit but go in the opposite direction. This brings you out at the Supertram stop. Take a tram for the short journey to Castle Square, then change for another tram to Don Valley Stadium. The trams are fast and frequent with a total journey time of just 15 minutes. A �1.50 ticket, purchased when you board the first tram at the station, includes your transfer to the second tram.

PS: For the first part of your journey, you're correct in suggesting travel via Leeds. Services from Harrogate are normally hourly with a typical journey time, to Sheffield, of 1 hour 37 minutes. You can check timetables here:

PPS: A DaySaver Supertram ticket costs �2.70. This gives unlimited travel, for a day, on Supertram services and provides the cheapest way to get to and from Don Valley Stadium, from Sheffield rail station.

When there's a concert I have been told the trams always run later than normal to clear the crowds.

Your problem getting back to the Harrogate area isn't with the buses and trams. It's with the trains.

The RHCP concert is scheduled to end at 2230 but the last train, which connects at Leeds for the Harrogate branch, leaves Sheffield station at 2221, so you won't be able to get back to Harrogate after the concert.

If you're able to arrange your own transport from Leeds, there are trains from Sheffield to there, leaving at 2315 (arrives 0029) and 2359 (arrives 0101). To connect with these trains, there are trams scheduled from the stadium as follows:
Depart 2234 - Arrive at station 2258 (change at Castle Square).
Depart 2254 - Arrive at station 2318 (change at Castle Square).
Depart 2315 - Arrive at station 2338 (change at Castle Square).
Depart 2335: Arrives at Castle Square at 2346. No connection to the station but you could walk there in time to catch the last train to Leeds.

As has been stated, it's likely that extra trams will run because of the concert and there'll still be buses, to Sheffield Transport Interchange, running past the stadium until well after the concert finishes.

Although it doesn't help to get you home (because there aren't any convenient late services), it might be worth noting that the nearest station to the stadium is actually Meadowhall. If you travelled, from Harrogate or Leeds, to Meadowhall station, the stadium is just 6 minutes away by tram.
