I don't know if this is the correct topic page but I wonder why Americans did not anglicise their Spanish place names in California, Texas etc. e.g. San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles,Amarillo, and Orlando among others

And SF was a Spanish mission called: Mission San Francisco de As�s, as was San Diego: Mission San Diego de Alcala
And if I recall, Orlando was Orlandos Graveyard or similar - after a soldier killed there in the 19th C - then the 'Grave' was dropped . . . .
