Biggest counties

What are the largest counties by area in England? I have a pub bet that Devon is larger than Norfolk but need official figures and a reference to claim victory. Cheers.

Sorry to disappoint but neither answer is right...It's yorkshire and you can check that on this site

You have won your bet JonW. At 2588 square miles Devon is larger than Norfolk (2074 sq. miles). Unfortunately, the only way (that I could find on the net) to prove this is to have a look at both www.norfolk.gov.uk and www.devon.gov.uk

My apologies Jon...i didn't read the question properly...thought you were looking for the largest county overall.....and Gef is correct it's your round at the bar seeing as your the winner.

and, on a slighly dull sidenote, isn't Yorkshire divided into 4? so is therefore not an official, administrative county?

Sadly, rja, the real Yorkshire has not existed since, the now defunct Teesside, was created in 1968.
