Robbo82 has omitted to quote his source. Reading those figures, as they are quoted, seems to imply that the total population of the USA exceeds 100%!
The most recent US census (2000) states that 75.1% of respondents described themselves as 'white'. 12.3% described themselves as 'black' or 'african american'. 3.6% accepted the description 'asian' to describe their race.
The reason that Robbo82's figures seem to exceed 100% is that the US census does not define 'hispanic' or 'latino' as races. Respondents were asked to state (irrespective of their race) whether they considered themselves to fall into one of these categories. Some people, therefore, might describe themselves as 'white' AND 'latino'.
