Italian men have an (mostly self-generated!) image that they are good lovers, which gives rise to the 'stalion' motif, and the rhyming slang does the rest.

sylvester stallones first movie was a porn called 'the italian stallion' not sure if it came from that or not. it is quite an old film, and no, i have never watched it!
