Here are the 13 British cities, with populations of 300,000+. The figures are based on populations revealed by the 2001 census, as supplied by the Government's Office for National Statistics. They are in 000s and are the most up-to-date and, presumably, accurate that you are likely to find. Click on http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/pop2001/bi

the URL above, Birmingham has been used as an example. Simply replace that with whatever other city-name you are interested in. (Some are not yet listed on the site. I got the appropriate information by e-mailing them directly.) If you want only the Top 10 English cities, just ignore Glasgow, Edinburgh and Cardiff. London 7,172; Birmingham 977; Leeds 715; Glasgow 630; Sheffield 513; Bradford 468; Edinburgh 452; Liverpool 439; Manchester 393; Bristol 381; Wakefield 315; Cardiff 305; Coventry 301.
That's interesting AB Ed. One of the things people criticise me for is not answering questions but concentrating on spelling and grammar. Yet when I do provide an answer that explained, politely, how the search facility works, it gets deleted. Other people are allowed to post really sarcastic remarks about repeated questions, but when I post a reply that contains no sarcasm whatsover but simply helpful advice on how Answerbank works and how to use it to get the required information, you delete it. Thanks a million, guys. I bet you wouldn't have deleted an answer like mine if quizmonster or andyhughes or einstein or someone like that had posted it.
Oddly enough, Spellmaster, the AB Editor did delete just such an answer as yours (I did see it) that I'd posted some months ago. It was clear to me that the questioner had no idea how to use Google or any other search engine. Consequently, I used it to find the answer and put a clickable link in my response, saying: "If you click here, you'll be taken to Page 1 of a Google-search on the subject, so all you'll have to do then is click the various headings to get loads of information on the topic." It was gone the very next day!

Accordingly, you really need to reject the idea that I - or anyone else - is a "pet" here and that you are a victim. Many's the time since, I've felt that the Google-page approach would be the ideal one, but I've always kept away from it. Seems you're going to have to do the same with the AnswerBank archive-pages, too...at least in the way you did use them!

Thank you QM, that is re-assuring at least. Perhaps we could prevail upon the AB Eds to stop deleting the type of answer we are referring to. Since the instructions within AB are not always clear, I don't see why answers that explain how it works get deleted.
