One petrol station near me has started to refuse to switch on the pump it you try to take fuel from opposite side of your car fuel cap (e.g. if your fuel cap is on the right hand side of the car & you park on the right hand side of the pump & then pull the fuel hose over the back of you car to reach the cap).
They have stated this is due to a new health & safty law. No other stations around my area have done likewise. Does anyone know if there is a law?
i think your local petrol station manager is having a basil fawlty moment, it cant last, it will drive him mad having to argue that with everyone, lots of comedy potential there :-D
I used to work for Esso so I know fo what I speak when I say this......There is no Law but it's a good policy NOT to allow this when the hose is being overly stretched as the nossel can slip from the grip of the user and spill fuel much easier this way....Plus I seen a security video of someone setting themselves on fire doing this trick whilst smoking.....Better to wait and be safe than sorry.
Slightly off the point but why is it people are so impatient at petrol stations. They are constantly trying to pull in front of you etc. In general in Britain we seem to be happy to form a nice line but at petrol stations this seems to go out the window.
Getting back to the petrol pump thing... I prefer to drive past the derbrains waiting for the "right hand" pump and fill my car from the left - just to show them what they're missing.
