Marjorie Kelly, or "Marge" as she was known to her friends was the wife of town councillor and town mayor Jim Kelly. She ran a local badminton club for years from the church hall and then Ivybridge community college. Many of the players trained by Marge went on to play for Devon and some for England a remarkable lady sadly missed. I am one of the players who came through the club and look back fondly on my years playing for "Marges" team.

Marjorie Kelly was my mother, she was married to Jim Kelly who was twice mayor of Ivybridge, and was instrumental in setting up Ivybridge Badminton Club, which went on to be one of the most successful junior clubs in the country, supplying at one time well over half the Devon junior squads, and winning national titles. Some players went on to represent England, and this honour was to recognise the amount of time, enthusiasm and hard work she put in for the youth of the town.
