We've never been to Wales and may go next year. Anyone tell me the nicest area to visit on the coast? Things to do but perhaps not too overly commercialised or dare I say seaside-trashy? Thank you.
depends what your looking for & your age ! we had never been to wales before and chose llandudno, it was excellent, not to rowdy, not to old fashioned! plenty to see and do and not over commercialised,
I love Tenby too, a lovely little town with lots of little tea shops and curio places, a gorgeous island (Caldey Island)with a monastry and they do some lovely boat trips to see the wildlife including seals and used to do an evening one stopping on a cove for a bbq.
I agree with Rogk Criccieth or Portmadog, both very good as a base for sightseeing, Barmouth, Harlech, Portmeirion, Snowdon, Caernarvon, Anglesey, Llyn Penninsular, all easy to reach. Huge sandy beach at Black Rock sands, very shallow water . No McDonalds except at Caernarvon.
As has been said, the Llyn Peninsula in the North West is beautiful and you can stay at Portmadog, then entrance to the Llyn.
Llyn is in the top left of Wales, and shaped a bit like Cornwall. I traveled to the far end, and looked back towards Snowdonia and the view was amazing.
