Furtherto the Q about the chimes and words, what are the words written in Gothic script under the clock faces of 'Big Ben'? They are pretty much indecipherable .

St Stephens Bell Tower mate.....sorry to appear pedantic but if your searching for any facts then you have to remember that Big Beb is only the bell not the name of the building it's housed in. But as i found out here http://www.guardian.co.uk/notesandqueries/query/0,
5753,-20951,00.html the inscriptions your referring to is as follows.... 'DOMINE SALVAM FAC REGINAM NOSTRAM VICTORIAM PRIMAM' which means 'Lord save our Queen Victoria I'
