How did comedian Dave Allen lose a finger?

No one knows for sure....despite being asked loads of times he never gave a serious answer and had a stack of jokes to make about it...the pig eating it being a favourite of mine.

I always heard he lost it in a shooting accident - sounds as feasible as anything else, but I don't know it to be a fact.

I think I can just about remember reading somewhere as a child that it wasn't due to an accident - it was a genetic abnormality at birth. But I could be wrong.

My Dad has the exact same half a finger - whenever i asked him how it happenned, he always said he couldn't tell me.... Is it a conspiracy between blokes of that certain age.....??

At school Allen lost part a middle finger after catching it in a cog. He used the fact of his missing digit as an excuse for numerous different shaggy dog stories.
