Siddhartha (Buddha) was born around 563 B.C.E. in the town of Kapilavastu (located in today's Nepal). Siddhartha's parents were King Shuddhodana and Queen Maya, who ruled the Sakyas
There are other historical documents (unconnected to the bible) which mention the existence of a man by the name of Jesus who was a teacher and had many followers. They also mention that the man was known to perform "good works" which His followers believed to be miracles (such as healing the sick etc.)

Although I can't give any specific details I think some of the documents were attributed to a man named Josephus who was a respected historian (possibly Roman).

josephus was a hebrew historian writing in latin to suck up to the romans. and how respected is debatable. but lots of dcuments exist in which a jesus ish character is mentioned, so people dont have a problem with saying he was real- just the nonsense about him being the son of glod. Similarly buddha is supported by historical texts .
But am I right in thinking that he is only the most recent Buddha and that there were seven others before him?
there have been a few. and lots of boddhisatvas too
Incitatus, you may not be a believer in Jesus as the Son of God but there is no need for you to be so gratuitously offensive to those who do hold sincere beliefs. Just because you disagree with other people does not mean you should not show respect for their views. The use of the word 'nonsense' in your posting was completely unnecessary, especially in Easter week of all weeks.
