It is the New Orleans equivalent of Shrove Tuesday - wasn't it a question on "Millionaire" once ?

Maybe, but Fat Tuesday is not the translation of Mardi Gras, just the literal meaning. 'Fat Tuesday' isn't an English expression, 'Mardi Gras' is.
