having a month old baby that was being breast fed got me out of it
I somehow ended up on 2 electoral rolls when I was a student and got called for jury service twice in the space of 3 months... I got out of both of them by being in the wrong place. I was away at uni at the time I'd been called to serve at home, and at home on hols at the time I'd been called to serve in the town where I was studying.
Why do you want to get out of it? You get paid, and it was really interesting for me when I sat on a jury. I really would recommend it.
The phrase 'Everyone should do their duty' usually works. & agree with Mortartube
I agree with Mortartube and football . We all want a fair and equitable society so we should be prepared to contribute towards it. It's not as of they ask you to do it every day.
According to Homer Simpson, the trick is to say that you're prejudiced against all races.
LOL at jenstar's response. Join the French Foreign Legion - that should do the trick
Have a previous appointment at court as defendant in a perjury case.
Out of curiosity, how much do you get paid for doing jury service?
It's a fortnight off work and is very interesting
You have to have a really genuine reason, like major illness, or being dead! I served on a jury many years ago (when Adam was a lad!) and it was a really interesting case of GBH and associated offences. I got two weeks off work, paid expenses for travel costs, which in my case were a lot less than the allowance paid, and a food allowance as well. I don't know if all that still applies today, but even so I think you should do it and take an interest in all that happens, and in the court as well. They are often fascinating places. It really is worthwhile, and you feel really good afterwards because you have done something to help a victim (usually).
what I don't understand is why you can't just have a job as member of a jury, just do it every day of the week if you want to, I mean you don't get "judge Duty" do you? that is their job...

juryies are a nonsense what if you get 3 idiots on a jury with a below average iq who decide 'they dont like the look of a defendent' they swing the verdict and send an innocent person to jail for life it should be qualified people ie judges who decide the fate of a persons life.
If they offered jury duty as a job they probably wouldn't get near enough people. As for getting out of it the only thing they do if you have an excuse is to defer you to a later date.
