Stooge or patsy are two I've heard.

Thanks, Incitatus-I should have been more specific. It's sidekicks (plural) & 6 letters-
?h?l?s. So sort of like - shells/whales etc.
Makes no sense to me either!
Ruth, I think the word you're looking for is "shill", plural "shills" (it can also be used as a verb). Shill is defined as "one who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle".
