Bournemouth has many areas depending on how much you are willing to pay. Charminster should be avoided as this is a haven for foreign students all the year round, but most are normal roads, avenues etc you would find anywhere in the country. Tell me where you were planning to live, and we'll take it from there ...if you wish, of course.
Boscombe is nearby and has a bad reputation for drugs.
Is is still as bad? It used to be very seedy around the Crescent area, but I thought perhaps that might have changed now.
I used to live in Bournemouth. As identified by previous answers, Charminster was a very 'studenty' area (both foreign and home students). I lived in Boscombe for a while and it was not uncommon to find used hypodermic needles in the backstreets and a slightly depressed feel. This was a couple of years ago now. With the increase in house prices the place may be more desireable.
i was born in boscombe many years ago and moved away in the late seventies.i often go back to visit relatives,im afraid its a bit seedy to say the least .the main pub in boscombe has photos of the kray twins on the wall??but bournemouth is a very large area .southborne, westbourne, very nice areas if you can afford a property there.overall its one of the best towns in the uk to live.its just been named the club capitol of the uk.
Yes, Bournemouth. I spent a month there one weekend. It's awful. It's so boring and there is NOTHING there. They've actually got a 'Bournemouth Eye', it's a balloon that goes up on a bit of rope and comes back down again - and it's more expensive than the London Eye.
Hello Stoory I lived in bournemouth for three years at uni and can confirm boscombe is a hole, don't move there - they're trying to tidy it up but i;s fairly grim. Charminster is mega foreign studenty and winton is a bit studenty but not as much - and there's a waitrose on the high street. Sandbanks is AWESOME but you're talking major bucks, Branksome is nice and talbot village is nice, like Cetti says - tell us where and we'll tell you what it's like. And as for Spianlads saying it's boring and there's nothing there - what rubbish, good shopping although it's spread out over the twon, loads of bars and clubs, the beach! as well as the aquariam, then there's the ferry to brownsea islan, just up the road is corfe castle and kimmerdige bay, beautiful. For you to say there's nothing there you must be the most unimaginative person ever. But that balloon does drive me crazy.
