The previous people to answer this have assumed you are a woman asking if a boyfriend might be gay. But why shouldn't you be a gay man asking if your boyfriend might be straight? But that seems very unlikely, because why should a straight man go out with another man and pretend to be gay? But then again, in this day and age when there is no stigma attached to being gay, why should a gay man go out with a woman and pretend to be straight? So, my answer is - whether you're a man or a woman - just accept what he says he is, until you have any real reason to doubt it.

Find another gay man whose 'Gaydar' will confirm whether he is gay or not. Check out his record collection for lots of Celine Dion / Cher / Other gay icons. Seriously though, I shared a house with a gay man for 4 months before finding out he was gay - and that was only 'cos he toild me, not because I guessed. Although once he did tell me, I realised the signs had always been there, I had just never spotted them!

Many Gays look very manly and its impossible to tell. You must have heard of Gay men "coming out" after 20 years of marriage and with 3 kids. jills is correct I think.

Their sense of style and the way they look after themselves is probably a good way to tell with some gay guys but not all...sense of humour etc???I really don't know any fool proof way...but I can spot quite well.
