i used to be one of those dorks running red lights, but after a few tickets and my insurance going up through the roof i learned a lesson. why i did it, mostly i had to get three kids to school on time to three different schools several miles apart; i did not want my kids standing waiting by the street at 6 in the morning, then riding the bus for more than an hour only for class to begin at 8. it's two dangerous, too many kids get abducted and killed here in the states. and then, when i picked them up, it was piano, ballet lessons, dentists appointments, in addition to working in my own business; it was madness sometimes, and unluckily, that's how i drove. plus the fact that i was younger and definitely brainless to speed down the road and then being stopped by a cop, being given a ticket, and then late for my appointment. one time i was going 70 on 55 mile highway, i know it is not the highest speed, but here in the US cops are ready to write you a ticket pretty quick, so this trooper handcuffs me, and takes to the station, takes my license, and i had to get a ride home, which was 25 miles away. needless to say i was late picking up my kids.
but i never block intersections, so i'm not all bad, thank god. and the cell phone, i got rid of it altogether. i do agree that phone users at the wheel are a definite hazard. we just had a really bad wreck nearby because the driver was on the phone. in some parts of the country you have to have hands free phones, it's the law in New York, believe.
