MI6 is the security dept dealing with UK while MI5 is the dept dealing with worldwide issues, I think

MI5 is responsible for protecting the UK against threats to national security. http://www.mi5.gov.uk/ MI6 is the Secret Intelligence Service - supposedly the James Bond stuff. Under the Intelligence Services Act one of its jobs is "to obtain and provide information relating to the actions or intentions of persons" outside the UK.
